All fourth grade teachers in the Troy School District have the opportunity to sign up their classes to participate in the Disabilities Awareness Workshop. This is a wonderful learning experience where students will be engaged in hands-on activities designed to increase their awareness of various disabilities.
The key to the success of this program is the participation of volunteers who will be guiding the students at the various stations. Volunteers will work with a small group of students at one of the stations below. Each class will attend either a morning or afternoon session lasting approximately 2 hours. Each session requires at least 14 volunteers.
Learning Differences I
Learning Differences II
Autism Spectrum Disorders
Vision Impairment
Learn About Braille
Gross Motor Impairment
Fine Motor Impairment
Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Speech Impairment
Adaptive Equipment with the Wheelchair Course
Each volunteer learns ten minutes of information and then teaches that same information to each group of students.
Volunteers who did not attend training should read their station explanation (links above) before the day of the workshop.
Parents will not ride the bus with the students, but will go directly to the Troy Services Building Board Room. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled start time to review the station instructions before students arrive.
